About Chenara Hypnotherapy
Cary Charles created Chenara Hypnotherapy during 2010 to help you enjoy making life-enhancing changes with the reassurance of clinical safety. Sessions in central Taunton, Somerset launched in 2011. Chenara Hypnotherapy brings clinical awareness to an unregulated but potentially transformative UK discipline littered with qualifications of variable academic merit and not a few entertainment myths. Some ‘therapists’ qualify with alarming rapidity, never had to research evidence or develop skills in person with other students. Obviously such factors are likely to impact upon end results. Sessions are guided by British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH) ethics, confidential, fully insured, and given in an entirely professional manner and setting. Chenara Hypnotherapy is committed to providing enjoyable and safe sessions, and lists itself only upon discerning hypnotherapy registers, e.g. BSCH. |

Cary Charles - Professional background
Cary Charles is a qualified British Society of Clinical Hypnosis registered clinical hypnotherapist. In addition to university accredited clinical hypnotherapy training, his sessions are also enhanced by clinical nursing experience, creativity, inspiration and enthusiasm. His affirming, supportive and solution focused sessions promote desired and practical life-enhancing changes as rapidly as possible. Cary’s hypnotherapeutic sessions date well beyond his university accredited hypnotherapy and nursing trainings. During 1991, aged 21, he co-founded the original Cotswold therapy centre named Chenara. Here he devised, facilitated and lectured about sessions which pushed the boundaries of ‘inner child’ and ‘past life’ therapy, using metaphor to heighten awareness of and access to untapped potentials. These ’quantum psychology’ sessions, as Wolinsky would term them, attracted clients from as far away as Australia, each of whom enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to explore and balance emotional and mental ’repertoires’, often arriving at profound transformation. Such exciting work was limited without clinically aware hypnotherapy and nursing training or applicable clinical supervision, and for a while Cary pursued his own artistic expression. Later, Cary gained valuable clinical training by nursing with Kings College London University at Guys and St. Thomas’ hospitals. This included mental health, sexual health, renal, vascular and general medical care, ENT surgery, post-surgical recovery and alcohol addiction. His ability to establish transformative rapport was often noted and each specialty revealed the impact of mind upon health - especially HIV post-diagnostic care. Whilst practice nursing, an unusual stream of patients had all used hypnotherapy to free themselves from the smoking habit. Each appeared more confident and successful than others who had used standard nicotine replacement and drug therapies and this prompted Cary to gain formal clinical hypnotherapy training with the internationally very highly regarded London College of Clinical Hypnosis. Motivated to promote clinically safe enjoyment of hypnotherapy for all, he currently organises regular clinical hypnotherapy support meetings for BSCH accredited clinical hypnotherapists across the south west UK. |

Cary’s personal experiences
Every therapist’s work is shaped by their own personal experiences and whether they have developed insight and self-knowledge through their own therapeutic journey. Cary almost instantly experienced vivid awareness of his unconscious self. The journey began during infancy with recurrent tonsillitis-related hallucinations and deepened with meditation and self-hypnosis during his teens. Even then, he felt the importance of balancing inspiration and ‘inner work’ with desired change in the real world. This balance continuously informs his life choices and artistic expression (see also his art website.) Cary has successfully used self-hypnosis and other techniques for many purposes, including reduction of distressing sleep-disturbing allergy-related asthma attacks to virtual insignificance. Having undergone his own therapeutic journey and experienced life-enhancing results, Cary now enthusiastically shares many useful techniques and insights with clients - all with the assurance of superb clinical hypnotherapy training. He offers an assured and healthy respect for the inner wisdom and wealth of solutions which the unconscious has to offer. To not access such resources, in his opinion, is a huge waste. They are our birthright.
